Libre Existence

I listened to a TED Talk recently by Steven Johnson. So when I saw he had a NYTimes article published answering the question of whether he was a Communist, I was sure to read it.

It’s fascinating. I agree the Fourth-Quadrant he recognizes needs a new term developed. I do think that it fits in more with the tenets of free markets though, and here’s why:

Liberty with property rights encompasses all voluntary interaction, even if it is not a simple good-for-good trade situation. Giving a gift or pursuing knowledge for its own sake exists more within the realm of liberty than command.

If the freedom to be physically secure while creating doesn’t exist, wouldn’t there be less creation?
