You Can Understand Imaginary Numbers Intuitively

You can understand i (sqrt(-1)) intuitively, without having a made-up shortcut.

[-4 * 3 = -12. $4 is owed; there are 3 people, and me. I owe three people. I owe $12.].

[-4 * -3 = 12. $4 is owed; there are 3 people, and me. Each owes me $4. I have $12.].

[-4 * -3 = -12. $4 is owed; there are 3 people, and me. Each owes me a debt of $4. I owe $12.].

So “imaginary” numbers are just as “real” as “real” numbers; they just are a step above, a step more complex, than simple numbers. Imaginary numbers are complex numbers.
